Calcaire à Astéries is a French term for a soil type whose English-language name is ‘starfish limestone’. It is found on the right bank of the Bordeaux region in the Côtes de Bourg AOC, the Fronsadais and the Saint-Emilion region. A clay–limestone soil, it is fairly widespread due to the parent rock called Molasse du Fronsadais or Fronsac molasse, recognisable by its asteriated (star-shaped) limestone from the Stampian Age.
