White wines

Toscana Bianco, Bulì: Vermentino:

Val di Cornia Bianco, Tuscanio Bianco: 2003 100% Vermentino. Short time in barrel. 1,600 bottles. | 2012 Decent acidity and body in a modern style (Vinitaly 2013).

Red wines

Val di Cornia Rosso, Coldipietrerosse: 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc. 22 months in barrel. | 2001 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot. 2,700 bottles. Quite a bit of new oak but lots of really clear fresh black fruit too, and with a texture that is not always inherent in the rest of the line-up here today (Bolgheri wine route office, 22 Feb 2005).

Val di Cornia Suvereto Sangiovese, Rubino: 2002 Produced. | 2003 85% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. 12,000 bottles. | 2011 50% Sangiovese, 25% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. 50% of the blend aged in old oak for 6 months. Well made gloopy black fruit and splintery wood (Vinitaly 2013).

Val di Cornia Suvereto Sangiovese, Tuscanio Rosso: Stainless steel vats, controlled temperature of 28°-30°C. 12 months in 225-litre French oak barriques in which, depending on vintage, the malolactic fermentation takes place. | 2000 €13.20 from the estate in 2004. | 2000 90% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot. 6,000 bottles. Nice porty and green salad nose; tannins a bit dry in this one; and perhaps a bit too long on the skins I think; but decent (Bolgheri wine route office 22 Feb 2005).

Toscana Rosso, Bulì: 2002 €4.90 from the estate in 2004.

Aleatico, Sfiziale: 2012 Well made, balanced, clean, bit of wild fruit plus lipstick and granny’s handbag (Vinitaly 9th April 2013).

Other products: Grappa, apricot and prune jams, orange marmalade, honey and vegetable concentrate, the “Settegusti” (or seven tastes). Maize, wheat, chickpeas and spelt are also grown. Also extra virgin olive oil (stone-milled).
