Bouches de Rhône IGP covers the eponymously named French département, the Rhône delta, and what ‘was a vinous blank, a pause between the mass production of the Languedoc and the scattered vineyards of Provence, until modern technology stepped in,’ says Hugh Johnson (Wine Companion: 1991, p.219). Its name until 2009 was Vin de Pays des Bouches du Rhône.
