BECKHAM ESTATE VINEYARD is an estate winery in the Chehalem Mountains AVA in Oregon.
OWNERS Andrew (he makes amphora) & Annedria Beckham.
BACKGROUND Inspired by their neighbours who had a plot of 20 year old vines and a desire to get their hands in the soil Andrew and Annedria purchased land in Oregon’s Chehalem Mountains in 2004. Their 28 acre farm has 6.5 acres dedicated to Pinot Noir, 1 acre to Riesling and further 7 acres of Gamay, Chardonnay and Trousseau which they planted. All are dry farmed.
CERTIFICATION No (2017).
POLYCULTURE Have sheep and goats.
WINEMAKING In 2013, drawing inspiration from Elizabetta Foradori Andrew, a ceramist, began to make terracotta amphora to produce wine in. The amphora wines are fermented with native yeasts, no commercial inoculation and are unfined and unfiltered. “Around 40ppm sulfites” I was told at the Real Wine Fair in Tobacco Dock 17-18th April 2016.
