Fattoria Vignavecchia is in Radda-in-Chianti in the Chianti Classico DOCG region of Tuscany, Italy. Fattoria Vignavecchia has been a member of the Consorzio Gallo Nero since 1924.

Owner: Franco and Sisa (Orsola) Beccari (siblings).

Background: The Beccari family received Fattoria Vignavecchia through inheritance from the Minucci family, proprietors since the end of he 17th century. After spending years wandering thought the forests of Borneo, Odoardo Beccari, a Florentine explorer, zoologist, botanist and etnologist, retired to Radda in 1876, and devoted himself to his family’s land. He had, over the years, participated in the purchase of the Bay of Assab, visiting the Cheren region, and travelled throught some of the wildest parts of the island of Celebes, exploring New Guinea, and the Moluccas. He returned to Radda with some rare zoological and botanical specimens. Beccari’s innate passion for collecting never left him, and after transforming himself from an ethnologist into an enologist, he began collecting the best vintage wines produced on his estate. To this day, the estate’s private wine collection incudes bottles dating from 1876 to 1931, which were only newly discovered by chance a few years ago, during restoration of the cellars.

Estate vineyards: The Vignavecchia estate covers 42ha of which 19ha are vineyards (14ha of which are Chianti Classico DOCG; 5ha IGT) and 3ha are olive groves. The rest is forest. The vineyards are grouped around the farmhouse. Panoramic position at a height of 500 m. above sea level, with south and south-west exposure. 2017 35ha of land of which 20ha of vineyards in Radda-in-Chianti. 400-500 metres.
