Tenuta di Tavignano | Tenuta di Tavignano is a family business winery and vineyard, founded by Stefano Aymerich and Beatrice Lucangeli. Today Stefano is assisted by his niece Ondine de la Feld. The estate dates from the 1600s. White wines are made under the Offida DOCG, the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore DOC, and the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Riserva DOCG.

Vineyards | 30 hectares of vines. Around the winery. Località Tavignano in Cingoli (MC = Macerata province). They are 20 miles (35km) from the Adriatic. 300 metres. Open in all directions. Always windy. Esino and Musone valley = get sea winds. Vineyard planting began in 1992. Started with Verdicchio of which there are 16ha. The rest is dedicated to reds: Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Lacrima, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Winemaking | Wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel. Only the Rosso Piceno sees any oak. Verdicchio sees no oak in order to avoid a ‘fat’ style.

Pet nat | Bottled with 10g/l RS which then ferments to dryness. Unfiltered. Less than 3 atmospheres.

White wines

Orange wine | A skin contact white with 14 days on the skins. 6 months on yeast. Low levels of sulfites

Offida DOCG, Pecorino | Pecorino grape. Piceno area. Bottled early. Unoaked.

Marche Bianco, Passerina | Passerina grape. Piceno area. Bottled early. Unoaked.

Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore DOC, Villa Torre | East-facing. 6ha. SW. Early release. No oak. Their biggest brand in terms of production. | 2016 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore DOC. Nice tight style with plenty of flesh, peach and lemon in Fabriano 3rd Sept 2017 (Collisioni).

Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore, Misco | Single vineyard called Misco, the Latin name for a local river. 3ha. South-east facing in the hills of Tavignano. Calcareous-clay. A ‘Selezione’ is made from the latest picked grapes in some years. Spurred cordon here, gives regular yields. | 2008 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore 14%. Lovely freshness and weight. Bees-wax, full-bodied on Sunday 04th September 2016 at the Palazzo Honorati-Carotti in Jesi. | 2017 100% Verdicchio. 13.5% alc. 0,9g/l residual sugar.

Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Riserva DOCG, Tenuta di Tavignano2014 13.5%. 13.88% alcohol. Steel. Temperature control. 12m in steel. Nice zip, creaminess on Saturday 03rd September 2016 at the Palazzo Honorati-Carotti in Jesi. | 2015 Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Riserva DOCG Classico. Hand picked. 13.98% alcohol. No wood. Nice crisp soft lightly-spread honey with a touch of depth (older vines) & appealing chalkiness on Saturday 03rd September 2016 at the Palazzo Honorati-Carotti in Jesi. Nice depth, creamy yeasty flavours in Fabriano 3rd Sept 2017 (Collisioni).

Red wines

Rosso Piceno DOC, Cervidoni | 3ha. Colli di Tavignano. S-E. Clay-limestone. 70% Montepulciano, 30% Sangiovese. Unoaked.

Rosso Piceno DOC, Libenter | 2015 3ha. Light slopes, south-east facing. 70% Montepulciano, 25% Sangiovese, 5% CS. 14m in oak. 15% alcohol.

Lacrima di Morro d’Alba DOC, Barbarossa | From Lacrima grown in San Marcello (AN). 3ha. 250m. Clay. South. No oak.
