Podere Il Pozzo is an organic estate in Pontassieve in Tuscany, Italy. Red wines are made under the Chianti Rufina DOCG.

Owner: Cantine Fratelli Bellini. The Bellini family bought it in 1998.

Vineyards: Right bank of the Sieve. 300–4500m asl. South-east facing. Overlooks the commune of Rufina. In 2020 the oldest vines dated from the 1960s. Biotypes. Rootstocks unknown. 3,800 vines per hectare. Clayey-marl (‘marno argilloso’). Archetto capovolto alla Toscana. Younger vines at 4,800 vines per hectare.

The farm is made up of about 50 hectares of woodlands, vineyards and olives. Of these, 10 hectares are Sangiovese vineyards with an average elevation of 300 m and south-east exposure: The old promiscuous vines have been substituted with specialised, intensive vineyards, with the exception of the “Vigna Vecchia” or old vineyard which contains biotypes of  Colorino del Valdarno, Canaiolo nero, Mammolo nero and others.

Chianti Rufina DOCG Podere Il Pozzo: 90% Sangiovese, 10% Colorino del Valdarno, Canaiolo nero, Mammolo, Ciliegiolo, plus other minor grapes. 1999 Debut. | 2012 Bottled. | 2013 Fluid, classic cherry aromas, lovely weight, not trying too hard (DWWA 2015). | 2014 Clean, bright, refreshing modern cranberry, tidy raspberry ripple aftertaste (Bronze, DWWA 2016). | 2017 Bronze (DWWA 2019). | 2018 100% Sangiovese. 13.38% alc. Hand picked. Fermented in stainless steel. 5-7 days on skins. Upto 26°C. Short, frequent pump overs. 12 months in tank. 20,000 bottles. Aged in wooden vats. Well made, soft and clear with a mouthwatering side too (Nov 2021).

Chianti Rufina DOCG Riserva Podere Il Pozzo: 2011 Bottled. | 2016 90%+ Sangiovese, 10% old local varieties. Hand picked. Fermented in stainless steel. 13.5% on the bottle (13.7% alc in reality). 24 months in French oak botti.10,000 bottles. Deep bright ruby red. Modernist style in a good sense. A little powdery from the oak. Medium weight. Plenty of tanginess and juiciness to the fruit which is in no way over-powered by the oak. Needs a couple more years in bottle but also rather nice now (August 2021). | 2017 13.5% alc. A juicy deep crimson red with a smooth texture, integrated oak and engaging drinkability (09 Oct 2021).

Chianti Rufina DOCG Riserva Vigna Vecchia: From the old vines–see above. 2011 Bit of bake here, more traditional style with some brett in there too (DWWA 2014). | 2012 Nice fruit coating the tannins, appealing nice cherry flavours too (DWWA 2016). | 2016 90%+ Sangiovese, the rest Colorino, Canaiolo Nero, Mammolo, Ciliegiolo, and other old local varieties. 13.8% alc. Hand picked into 15kg boxes. Fermented in  stainless steel. 10-15 days on skins. Upto 26°C. Short, frequent pump overs. 4 months in tank. Then in 35hl French oak vats for around 24 months. 10,000 bottles.
