Where grown: In Calabria, Pecorello is often called Pecorino by locals despite it having nothing in common with the more famous variety of the same name, the Pecorino of the Marche region. See also the unrelated Pecorello Bianco. In Calabria Pecorello is found around Catanzaro and Cosenza in the Savuto DOC zone where it can be used as part of the blend.
Viticulture: Medium-sized sparse bunches; with medium small thick skinned berries.
