Olivia Ross was born in 1980 in Wellington, New Zealand. She has been assistant winemaker at the Burn Cottage winery in Otago since July 2014. Her partner is Mike Wolfenden. Olivia studied oenology in Lincoln with a Masters in Applied Science. She specialised in mulching with glass and mussel shells as New Zealand finds it hard  to recycle glass as the only smelter is in Auckland. Olivia told me ‘the glass did reflect light. The white glass was good at reflecting and green was not so good because it absorbed the red light [green absorbs red = dimmed everything down]’.
