Moselle AOC in the Lorraine region of is the most northerly wine region in France. Its former name was Vins de Moselle VDQS (from 1951). It became AOC from the 2011 vintage onwards. It covers still wines of all three colours (but mainly whites) from around Vic-sur-Seille to the south and west of the well-preserved city of Metz, and around Sierck-les-Bains near the German-Luxembourg border. The main grape varieties are Auxerrois and Pinot Noir.

Terroir: There are three main areas of production: south and west of Metz, the area around Sierck-lès-Bains, and in the Seille valley around Vic-sur-Seille. The hills bordering the Moselle valley represent the sedimentary layers which form the eastern edge of the Paris basin.

Viticulture: Wide spaced, high-trained vines, similar to neighbouring Luxembourg.
