Monterongriffoli is a village which considered a locality of San Giovanni d’Asso, a commune in the province of Siena in Tuscany. The first recorded mention of Monterfongriffoli was in 1208, when it was under the jurisdiction of the Abbey of San Pietro a Pava. In 2017 San Giovanni d’Asso and thus Monterongriffoli were subsumed into the commune of Montalcino as part of local government efficiency reforms. The vineyards of San Giovanni d’Asso or Monterongriffoli do not however qualify for any of Montalcino’s wine denominations (Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Rosso di Montalcino DOC or Sant’Antimo DOC) and are instead part of the Orcia DOC.
