Montefalco, 2013 vintage: See Montefalco DOC. | Montefalco region of Umbria.

2013Rating **** (four). Growing season Winter brought heavy rainfall. Spring was mild, temperatures were below average. This delayed flowering by 7-10 days, and led to reduced yields. Plenty of spring rain. Typical summer weather returned from late June. July and August combined reasonable heat levels, and occasional heavy downpours. September brought good conditions, with warm temperatures and helpful winds. Harvest brought a mix dry periods and rainstorms. Ripening was said to be good, if late. Lower than average yields and alcohol levels. ‘Wet, early summer with mildew. Small crop. Sagrantino unlikely to excel,’ (Stephen Brook, 2016). Wine style A good year, softer than normal tannins. Clean, ripe fruit of excellent quality. A growers’ vintage.
