Montefalco, 2012 vintage | See Montefalco DOC.
2012 | Rating **** (four). Growing season Cold, dry winter. A drier than usual growing season. Mild, dry spring. Some cold spells between April and May (cold nights). Dry, hot summer with heat spikes. One of the hottest and dry summers of the last years, especially in the months of June, July and August. Hot winds until the end of August. Vine stress from heat in Sept and Oct. Some useful localised rainfall. September rains have allowed an optimal ripeness of the grapes and a good overall balance. Quick maturation. Healthy grapes, lower than average yields. ‘Very hot summer, but Sagrantino resisted the water stress,’ (Stephen Brook, 2016). Wine style High alcohol levels, long ferments. Big wines with structure. ‘Quality should be very good,’ (Stephen Brook, 2016).
