Montecucco DOC & Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG 2011 vintage: See Montecucco DOC and Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG.

The Consorzio Tutela Montecucco said ‘an excellent [2011] vintage is expected for Montecucco both in quality and quantity. The drought of the last period, despite the summer peaks, did not cause significant damage thanks to the rains of last July which allowed the creation of an adequate water reserve. The quality of the grapes also suggests an excellent 2011 vintage, the first for the Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG & Riserva made from 90-100% Sangiovese and 0-10% other permitted grapes with a minimum aging of 12 months in wood and 4 in the bottle, and 24 months in wood and 6 in the bottle for the Riserva type. Yields per hectare drop to 70 quintals per hectare, among the lowest in Italy. Source: Comunicato Stampa Consorzio Tutela Montecucco 27 September 2011.
