Michael Seresin was born in Wellington, New Zealand (17 July 1942). After a non-completed arts degree he worked in film for several years in New Zealand before leaving aged 23 in early 1966 with a one way ticket to Rome. ‘This was my introduction to Italian cinema [the era of Fellini and Truffaut], and most importantly to the world of wine,’ he says. Seresin forged a successful career as an award-winning cinematographer: Angel Heart (1987); Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) plus several collaborations with British director Alan Parker such as Midnight Express (1978); Angela’s Ashes (1999). He also founded the Seresin Esate vineyard and winery in the Marlborough region of New Zealand in 1992, whose first vintage was 1996. It is the largest Biodynamic vineyard in that country and one of the largest Biodynamic vineyards  in the world.

The vineyard, winemaking and admin staff can grow Biodynamic vegetables and fruit on the estate. We always think terroir-expression begins and ends with the wine. But if your staff can eat estate-grown produce they also in some way become and expression of the terroir.
