London Plane (Platanus hybrida) is thought to be a hybrid of the American Plane (P. occidentalis). It is grown as a street tree in most of Europe, except in the drier parts of the Mediterranean. It can be distinguished from the Oriental Plane by its more shallowly cut leaves and flower-heads which usually grow in pairs rather than in groups of three to six.
