Le Cinciole is an organic winery in Panzano in Chianti, in Greve in Chianti, Tuscany. It produces Chianti Classico DOCG red wine.

Owner: Luca and Valeria Orsini (née Vignano). They left Milan for Tuscany in 1991, where they had respectively worked as a math professor and architect. The difficult 1992 vintage was their first.

The name: Le Cinciole derives from ‘land of Quintius’.

Staff: Consultant oenologist: Stefano Chioccioli.

Vineyards: 13 hectares in the Conca d’Oro in Panzano, Greve in Chianti. 400-450 metres, Mainly galestro soil mixed with sand and chalk. With a total of 13 hectares planted to vines, 11ha are currently in production. Another 5ha are planted to olive groves. From the Petresco vineyard see below.

Chianti Classico DOCG, Le Cinciole: Made using traditional Chianti Classico grape varieties (a tiny percentage of Canaiolo is blended in with Sangiovese) and vinified in large vats. | 2009 25-30,000 bottles. 98% Sangiovese, 2% Canaiolo. Credible mid-ruby, slightly soft tannins and confected fruit (RAW May 2012). | 2010 100% Sangiovese. OK, firm, decent bright fruit, clean warmish style with some chocolate (Millésime Bio 2014). | 2014 100% Sangiovese.

Toscana Rosso IGT, Petresco: From limestone (‘alberese‘) soils. | 2013 100% Sangiovese. Soft, well made (RAW May 2012). | 2009 100% Sangiovese. 2nd year oak. Nice deep fruit and balanced oak (Millésime Bio 2014).

Toscana Rosso IGT, Le Cinciole Rosso2011 60% Sangiovese, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot (and Syrah I think). Smoky, young vines (Millésime Bio 2014).

Toscana Rosso IGT, Camalaione Rosso2004 Bottled. | 2006 Bottled. |  2007 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, Syrah. Barrel aged. | 2009 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% each Merlot and Sangiovese. 24 months in oak. Thickish mint and blackberry (Millésime Bio 2014).

Other activities: Olive oil from 5ha of olive groves.
