Red wines

Chianti Colli Fiorentini DOCG La Querce:

Chianti Colli Fiorentini DOCG La Torretta: Said to come from 1.5 ha of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Colorino & other red grapes planted in 1970 and 1990; 8 months in barrel. | 2002 8,000 bottles. A bit high tone again, with obvious Cabernet Sauvignon on the nose as quite a bit of pepper and blackcurrant; simple and high-tone with dry tannin and animal notes (Visit 2005). | 2010 90% Sangiovese + 5% each Canaiolo & Merlot. £8.14.99. Smoke and some rubber on the nose. Tannins a bit tight, thick, chewy, lacking lift, sticky style of fruit, metallic end (Bronze: DWWA 2013).

Chianti Colli Fiorentini DOCG Sorrettole:

Toscana Rosso IGT, La Querce: Said to come from 1.5 ha of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Colorino & other red grapes planted in 1970 and 1990. 18 months in barrel. | 2001 Deepish colour, some ripeness and clarity; again quite high tone too; the oak is quite integrated but it is not totally clean; a bit soupy and over-ripe but not extracted; decent but very simple and too nail-varnish-like from acetaldehyde. Second bottle was similar (Visit 2005). | 2009 90% Sangiovese, 10% Colorino. £15-29.99. Black fruit, ripe and refreshing with attractively used vanilla oak in support (Silver, DWWA 2013).
