Innocenti is an estate winery and mixed farm in Località Citille di Sotto in the Torrenieri sub-region of Montalcino in Tuscany, Italy. Its main wines are Rosso di Montalcino DOC and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.
Owner: Brothers Gianni Innocenti (winery) and his brother Massimo (agronomist).
Background: This area was and still is known for arable crops (fodder for animals). The estate was founded in 1961 after the sharecropping era was phased out by Sabatino Innocenti and then his son Livio, who planted the first vineyards for commercial wine sales. His sons Gianni and Massimo are now in charge.
Vineyards: 7ha. Hill site. 330-350 metres. South-facing.
Winemaking: Stainless steel for fermentation, Slavonian botti for ageing.
Rosso di Montalcino DOC, Innocenti: 2003 Bit green, light, not great (Anteprima 2005). | 2011 Bright, and clear at the consorzio with Ian d’Agata Tuesday 28th May 2013
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Innocenti: 1998 Debute. | 2008 Decent weight but not much finesse or character, but clean(ish) at least, sticky black fruit and some splinters/ash at 32 Viale Piave, Torrenieri 24 Jan 2014 (bottle given to us by Emanuela, who had won it in the raffle at the befana party a couple of weeks before).
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva, Innocenti: Made in 1999, 2001, 2004 and 2006.
