Gualdo Cattaneo is a commune in Perugia province in Umbria, central Italy. It is located about 16 miles (25 km) southeast of the provincial capital Perugia. Gualdo Cattaneo derives its name from the presence of surrounding forests (‘wild’ or wood in German). Part of its territory runs north, alongside Bevagna, within the western part of Montefalco’s coterminous DOC and DOCG zones.

Wine styles: Ian D’Agata (2019: p.268) describes the Sagrantino wines of Gualdo Cattaneo as ‘softer and readier to drink’, compared to the Montefalco norm.
