Giano dell’Umbria is the highest commune in the Montefalco region of Umbria in central, Italy. Part of its territory falls within the coterminous Montefalco DOC and DOCG zones (see below).

Terroir: Giano dell’Umbria lies in the southwestern part of the Montefalco zone, facing in the direction of Todi (see Todi DOC), between the towns of Marcellano to the northwest, Le Torri to the southwest, and Montecchio to the southeast.

Soils: ‘Very rich in clay’, creating ‘some of the most powerful’ wines in the Montefalco zone (Ian D’Agata: Native Wine Grape Terroirs 2019, p.269).
