Fiefs Vendéens AOC | The appellation dates from 1984 (previously VDQS) and comprise 20 communes in the Vendée department on the central west (Atlantic) coast of France. The region is located near the mouth of the Loire, around 28 miles (45km) south of Nantes (in the Muscadet zone), and is therefore considered a southern extension of the Pays Nantais. Five communes called Brem (Brem-sur-Mer), Chantonnay (since 2011), Mareuil (the main one), Pissotte, and Vix can append their names to that of the AOC.
