Die, pronounced dee is a commune, former episcopal see, and sub-prefecture of the Drôme department in the Rhône valley in southeastern France. The region around Die is known as the Diois. It marks the transition from Alpine to Mediterranean climes. The town, flanked on both sides by mountains, is best known for the Clairette de Die, a sparkling wine. It was a county in the High Middle Ages.
