The Consorzio Chianti Classico is the body officially representing producers who make the following wines: Chianti Classico DOCG & Riserva. | Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione. Founded in 1924 it is the oldest such producers’ association in Italy. It is also referred to as Gallo Nero.

With more than 600 members, of whom approximately 350 are bottlers, the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium now represents 95% of the entire denomination. The organisation was was created to protect (via laboratory testing and legal offices) and add value to the Chianti Classico wine and its trademark via marketing and communication.
