Colognole is an estate winery in the Chianti Rufina DOCG, in Tuscany, Italy.

Owner: Gabriella Spalletti with her sons Cesare and Mari. In the 1950s and 1960s the wines were sold under the ‘Spalletti’ family name but the family brand name was sold to Cinzano. Hence the wines are now called Colognole.

Vineyards: High altitude. Poor, washed out top soils over limestone on the slopes of Monte Giovi. Mainly Sangiovese, plus Canaiolo. Also Chardonnay, plus a small amount of Syrah and Merlot in the highest vineyard.

White wines

Toscana Bianco, Quattro Chiacchiere: 2001 Barrel fermented.

Red wines

Chianti Rufinà DOCG, Colonel: 2002 Unoaked. Tanky/pressy nose. No riserva made in 2002. Rather slight and under-ripe and lacking depth (Visit: 17th March 2005). | 2009 Federico Staderini was consulting.

Chianti Rufinà DOCG, Colognole Riserva del Don: 2000 Cleanish but hot finish; some nice wild fruit; but green (Visit: 17th March 2005).
