Colle Ciocco is an estate winery in the Montefalco region of Umbria, Italy. Settimio Spacchetti established the farm in 1935. It is currently run by his sons Lamberto and Eliseo. Red wines are made under the Montefalco Rosso DOCMontefalco Sagrantino DOCG, and Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG Passito. White wines under the Spoleto Trebbiano Spoletino DOC are also made.

Vineyards: Colle Ciocco is a place name (‘toponimo’), a hillside just outside the gates of the commune of Montefalco itself. This is where the farm and vineyards are, at 400 metres above sea level. From the vineyard, there is a view over the hill towns built on the slopes of the surrounding mountains: Spello, Assisi, Perugia, and Spoleto. Size: 19 hectares of land of which 8 hectares of vines (Sagrantino and other grapes) and 9 hectares of olive groves.

White wines

Clarignano, Umbria Bianco: 50% Viognier, 40% Grechetto, 10%, Chardonnay.

Montefalco Bianco, Colle Ciocco: 70% Trebbiano Spoletino, 70% Viognier, 20% Chardonnay.

Spoletino Trebbiano Spoletino DOC, Tempestivo: 100% Trebbiano Spoletino. Unoaked. Around 2,000 bottles. 

Red wines

Montefalco Rosso DOC, Colle Ciocco: 70% Sangiovese, 15% each Sagrantino and Merlot. Fermentation in stainless steel. Approximately 3 weeks on skins. Aged 12m in 25hl French oak for a year. 27,000 bottles.

Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG Colle Ciocco: 100% Sagrantino. Fermentation in stainless steel. On skins for around 4 weeks. Aged 24m in 25hl French oak for a year.

Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG Passito: 100% Sagrantino. Around 3,000 bottles (50cl).

Olives: 3,000 olive trees. Many are over 100 years old. The main variety is Moraiolo (80%). Other olive varieties include Frantoio (15%) and Leccino (5%). The olive harvest begins in the second half of October. The hand-picked olives are placed in special well-aerated cases and are cold pressed within 24 hours of picking. Three types of oil extra-virgin olive oil are produced: Fiore “flowery”, Fruttato “fruity” and Gentile “gentle”, all under the Olio di Montefalco name.
