Château La Lagune is an organic winery in the Haut-Médoc AOC on the left bank of the Bordeaux region. Château La Lagune, an 18th-century villa, is the closest 1855 classed growth to the Bordeaux, on the D2 road (‘la route des châteaux’), travelling north from the city.
Owner: Jean-Jacques Frey since 2000. La Lagune is run by Mr Frey’s daughter Caroline Frey. The Frey family also own Paul Jaboulet Aîné in the Rhône and Château Corton C in Burgundy. The previous owner was Jean-Michel Ducellier of Champagne Ayala from 1961.
1855 Classification: In the 1855 Classification Château La Lagune was classified 3rd Growth, making it the highest placed Haut-Médoc, and the southernmost estate in the Médoc region as a whole to be classified.
Vineyards, Terroir: Light soils comprising sandy gravel.
