Château La Croix Toulifaut is an organic estate located in Pomerol on Bordeaux’s right bank. Red wines are made under the Pomerol AOC. The name derives from the Roman term ‘tot li felt’, which in old French (‘tout y faille’) means ‘everything is flawed’ or ‘we all succumb eventually’, inscribed on a stone at nearby Château La Croix (‘Cross Castle’) aimed at pilgrims passing through on their way to Santiago di Compostella.

Owner: Joseph Janouiex since 1972.

Vineyards: 1.9ha. On the south side of the Pomerol plateau between Château Beauregard in Pomerol and Château Figeac in Saint-Émilion.

Soil: Sandy over an iron-rich hardpan or ‘machefer‘ whose presence is said to account for the wine’s longevity.

Organic certification: Yes.
