Château Junayme is located east of the church in Fronsac, a commune in the Fronsadais on the right bank of the Bordeaux region. It produces red wines under the both the Fronsac and Canon-Fronsac AOCs. The name is said to derive from a knight who, about to leave on crusade wished his loved one goodbye: ‘Adieu, ma jeune aymée’. In 1850 Cocks et Féret listed Junayme as the most important estate in Fronsac.

Owner: Originally, the property was bought by Eugène Horeau in 1880. The De Coninck family inherited the property in 2004.

The château: The original château was built in the 14th-century. Between 1850-1880 the new château was built by the Ollivier family during the reign of Napoléon III, but it was destroyed by fire in 1922. It was then re-built as it was before.

Vineyards: 15ha. Mid-way between Fronsac and St Michel de Fronsac on well exposed clay-limestone on the Côte de Canon. 100% hillside vineyards in the Junayme valley.

Organic certification: 2017 No (Source: Agence Bio France).

Winery: Cement tanks (when I visited on 23 Aug 1993).
