Château Hauchat is an estate in the commune of Saint-Aignan in the Fronsadais on the right bank of the Bordeaux region. It produces red wines under the Fronsac AOC.

Owner: The Saby family. Today brothers Jean-Christophe and Jean-Philippe run the business. The family story began in 1785 when an ancestor acquired the first plot of vines in Saint Laurent des Combes in the Saint Emilion region, and what is now Château Rozier, a Saint Emilion Grand Cru. Nine generations have followed. Jean-Bernard Saby bought Hauchat in 1988, having previously rented it en fermage from his uncle.

Vineyards: 7ha. On a clay-limestone plateau. 100% Merlot. Faces south south-west to Pomerol. This situation gives it ideal sunshine and perfect drainage. The soil is clay-limestone (starfish limestone or ‘calcaire à l’astéries’). We produce 2 wines there:

Fronsac AOC, Château Hauchat: From the highest Merlot vines.
