Château de La Rivière is located in La Rivière, a commune in the Fronsadais on the right bank of the Bordeaux region. It produces red wines under the Fronsac AOC. The chateau is the most spectacular building in the Fronsac region. It has 13th-century origins. It is located on a shelf below the limestone plateau with its own woodland as backdrop (David Peppercorn MW (1991, p.567).
Owner: Jacques Borie acquired it in 1962.
Vineyards: Below the chateau on 30m-deep limestone (David Peppercorn MW (1991, p.567). 15ha in 1962. 46ha in the mid-1990s.
Winery: The chai is dug into the aforementioned limestone (space created by 9ha of quarry workings (David Peppercorn MW (1991, p.567).
Fronsac AOC, Château de La Rivière: The Grand Vin. A blend of the best vines situated at the top of the limestone plateau and on the slope (limestone & clay). Mainly Merlot plus Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec.
