Castello di Selvole is a winery in Vagliagli, Località Selvole, in Castelnuovo Berardenga in the Chianti Classico DOCG region of Tuscany. As well as red wines, Vin Santo del Chianti Classico DOC is also made. During the Middle Ages and part of the Renaissance, Siena and Florence were constantly at war, a perpetual conflict that ended only in 1599 when the Republic of Siena was finally defeated and ceased to exist as an independent state. The Arbia River flowed along the border between Florence and Siena and around the hill of Selvole, which formed the last Sienese defense. In circa.1200, around 90 families lived in the castle, housing more than 300 people.
