OWNER | Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti.
BACKGROUND | The estate was founded in 1998 by Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti, who has a degree in Agricultural Science, together with his wife Marcella. Oenology professor Luigi Moio advised on Aglianico.
ESTATE VINEYARDS | 26ha in the Mont Vulture area (the villages of Rionero, Barile, Ripacandida, Maschito and Ginestra). Some vines are more than a hundred years old. These areas have different soils, (sand, volcanic residue, medium consistency or clay) but the same layer of volcanic tufo in common.
WINE RANGE | Cantine del Notaio utilizes Aglianico del Vulture grapes to produce three red wines, (La Firma, Il Repertorio and Il Sigillo), one rosé (Il Rogito), one traditional method (‘metodo classico’) sparkling wine, the spumante (La Stipula), and one sweet white (L’Autentica). The wine names all derive from the ancient Roman and Italian profession of the notary, a combination of lawyer, conveyancer and public commissioner for oaths.
Il Preliminare | 2014 IGT Basilicata Bianco. 25% each Aglianico picked earlier than for the red and vinified as a white (to give structure) plus 55% local white grapes: Malvasia, Moscato and Chardonnay. 20-30,000 bottles. Nice musky nose, very savoury on palate, quite gravelly, not too exotic, interesting at the Museo di Storia Naturale del Vulture on 10th June 2015. | 2018100% Aglianico (a white wine made from a red grape variety. 13.5% alc. 4g/l residual sugar.
Il Patto | 2018 IGT Basilicata Bianco. 25% each Aglianico del Vulture, Chardonnay, Moscato and Malvasia.
Aglianico del Vulture DOC Rosato, Il Rogito | 2014 13.5%. Bit heavy, some funk, lack of clarity. VA, brett too I think tasted blind at the Radici del Sud competition, 13th June Saturday 2015.
Aglianico del Vulture DOCG, L’Atto | L’Atto is their biggest seller Pamela Fortuna told me at the Museo di Storia Naturale del Vulture on 10th June 2015.

Ripe and savoury, classic tannins, very restrained, even, lovely length, very good at the Museo di Storia Naturale del Vulture on 10th June 2015. | 2011 100% Aglianico del Vulture. 15.0%. Rich, ripe, still quite primary. Big monster, plenty of very rich tannin, thick, some wildness, big generous wine. Needs more finesse at the Radici del Sud competition, 14th June Saturday 2015.
