Cantina Broccanera is an organic estate in Arcevia in the Marche region of Italy. Wines are made under the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC.

Owner: Giorgio Santini.

Motto: ‘Finest winery in Arcevia, Le Marche, Italy’.

The name: The estate takes its name from fragments of an ancient wine pitcher (‘brocca’) which was black (‘nera’) in colour found when excavations for the winery were taking place. The winery building has large windows overlooking the valley. It lies at 350 metres above sea level, on the hills at the foot of Arcevia.

Vineyards: 4 hectares. In the western part of the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC zone, near the Apennines. North-east facing. Clay-sand.

Organic certification: 2011 First vintage with full organic certification.

Winery: The cellar is 7m underground.

Winemaking: Whites are hand picked and whole bunch pressed. Settled. Fermented in stainless steel. Red grapes go via gravity to wooden vats for fermentation. They age in stainless steel, barrels or tonneaux depending on the year. Giorgio designed and made his own disgorging and labelling machines.
