Bordeaux 2002 vintage: See Bordeaux region. ‘The forgotten vintage of the decade,’ says Steven Spurrier (Decanter, September 2008, p.32-36), ‘saved from rain at the eleventh hour but…difficult on the Right bank due to rain, only a little better on the Left bank. Pleasantly fruity wines for the medium term.’

Jancis Robinson MW in the Financial Times (as reported in Harpers, ‘In the Press,’ 9 May 2003, p.14) said the Left Bank provided most of the highlights. Her star varieties on both banks were the two Cabernets which added adding sumptuousness which Robinson said balanced the streak of acidity in the wines. The worst wines, ‘and there were many’ were tart and lacking fruit.
