OWNER | Denis and Alessia Montanar [Montganar].
BACKGROUND | Denis Montanar’s great-grandfather was a sharecropper in the early 1900s. Vines from the 1920s survive here. The estate has never seen weedkillers. After WW2 Lino Montagnar bought land, and expanded the holding with the a small plot that help of this wife Elsa. The estate grew and Lino’s son Claudio succeeded him. He in turn was followed by his son Denis. He took over here in 1990 with his wife Alessia and their three children.
Terroir: Airflow via winds from the Adriatic to the south, with mountains to the north.
VINES | Merlot, Tocai, Verduzzo, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon and Refosco. | 2010 10ha of vines.
ORGANIC CERTIFICATION | 1996 Certified organic for the first tie for the vines. | 2000 Certified organic for the first time for the cereals.
BIODYNAMICS | 2019 Member of Renaissance des Appellations.
Other crops: Wheat, maize, buckwheat, sunflowers.

UIS NERIS (BORC DODON) | Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon. From 1.3-ha planted around 1980. Cordone speronato (3,500 vines/ha) and double Guyot (6,500 vines/ha). Soil is clay, sand, loam. Hand picked. Fermented in open-topped wooden vats. Aged 22 months, half in 225-litres barrels and half in oak vats. |
