Black mulberry or Common mulberry (Morus nigra) from Central Asia is widely cultivated in the Mediterranean for its edible berries. They are ripe when dark purplish red. It is a deciduous shrub or small rounded tree. Leaves vary from ovate to two or three-lobed.
