Barone Pizzini is a producer of organic and Biodynamic sparkling wine in Corte Franca, Brescia Province, in Italy’s Lombardy (‘Lombardia’) region. It makes Curtefranca DOC still wines and Franciacorta DOCG sparkling wines. Barone Pizzini also owns Pievalta in Italy’s Le Marche region.

Owner: Founded by Barone Pizzini in 1870.

Vineyards: Barone Pizzini has vineyards in three areas covering over 100ha. In Lombardia: South of Lake d’Iseo, between the Oglio river and Monte Orfanol. Harder to be biodynamic in the north due to restrictions on copper sprays used against downy mildew (limited to 3kg/ha per year by Demeter). The Franciacorta DOCG fizz was decent at ExCel, 12 May 2009. They say they are the first tp make an organic Franciacorta. In Puglia: Tenuta del Barco [no longer working with Barone Pizzini].

Sebino Rosso IGT, San Carlo: 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc. 18 months in oak.

Lombardia IGT Rosso Curtefranca: ’40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Barbera, 10% Nebbiolo.

Toscana: I Botri, Scansano.
