Ancona, capital city of the eponymously named province in Le Marche, a region on the Adriatic coast of Italy. Its status as a wine town rose with the revival of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and the emergence from obscurity of Rosso Conero (Burton Anderson: 1990, p.175). The best view of the city is from the Colle Guasco, the site of the cathedral of San Ciriaco, one of the most interesting medieval churches in the Marche.
