Ancona, capital city of the eponymously named province in the Le Marche region on Italy’s Adriatic coast. Its status as a wine town rose with the revival of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and the emergence from obscurity of Rosso Conero (Burton Anderson, 1990, p175). The best view of the city is from the Colle Guasco, the site of the cathedral of San Ciriaco, one of the most interesting medieval churches in the Marche.
