AGLIETA is an estate winery in the Camigliano sub-zone in the south west of Montalcino in Tuscany, Italy. The main wines are Rosso di Montalcino DOC and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

BACKGROUND | It was established in 1989 when Roberto Aglieta bought the Podere Scopetino with his partner Patrizia Merlo. Both Patrizia and Roberto were from Genoa, where he worked in shipping. After Roberto died in 2008 aged 62, Patrizia leased Podere Scopetino’s vines.

VINEYARDS | The soils are said to be rich in calcium carbonate and clay.

IGT ROSSO TOSCANO, POMO | 90% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot.

IGT ROSSO TOSCANO, TERZO TEMPO | Merlot and Sangiovese. The name is said to honour the game of rugby.

ROSSO DI MONTALCINO DOCG, AGLIETA | 2011 500 bottles. Traditional nose, bit hollow, savoury, fluid, not too baked, decent at Benvenuto Brunello Feb 2014.

BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO DOCG | 2009 8,000 bottles. Bit raisiny, OK nose, dry on palate at Benvenuto Brunello 2014.

BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO DOCG RISERVA | 2008 Heavy nose, bit of green and bake, clumsy on palate at Benvenuto Brunello Feb 2014.
