1616 COUDERC (1616C) is a V. longii x V. riparia cross bred in 1882 by Georges Couderc to produce a low-vigour rootstock with high nematode and phylloxera tolerance, says Dr Richard Smart (2015, p628), who adds that 1616C is best suited to more humid soils, and brings ripening forward.
