WEINGUT TRAUTWEIN is a winery on the eastern fringe of the Kaiserstuhl sub-region Baden region of Germany.

OWNER Hans-Peter and Elfriede Trautwein. Hans-Peter took over here in 1976.

HISTORY The estate’s origins date to 1649.

CERTIFICATION 1980 First organic practices. 1986 Certified organic for the first time (by Germany’s Bioland). 2004 Demeter certified Biodynamic for the first time. 2016 Still Demeter certified Biodynamic.

VINEYARDS 2003 8 hectares (20 acres). Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer in Bahlinger Fohberg; Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris in Bahlinger Silberberg.

WINES 2003 95% dry wines. Tasted his Pinot Blanc 2002 (creamy, slightly fat and oxidised), 2001 Pinot Gris (as above), 2001 Gz Eiswein (not bad, lush, 190g/l RS), and 1999 PN Spätlese (oaky as 27 months in barrel) at the German Wine Tasting, Vinopolis, London Monday 7th April 2003.
