OWNER | Pierluigi Zampaglione. Until 2009, Pierluigi Zampaglione’s nephew Guido Zampaglione of Tenuta Il Grillo in Piemonte made the Don Chisciotte wines for his uncle (see also Guido Zampaglione’s own Fiano project in Campania, Il Tufiello).

VINEYARDS | In Calitiri, Alta Irpinia, Campania. In 2002 2-ha of Fiano grapes were planted (guyot, wire-trained), comprising one hectare of estate vines and one hectare of rented vines across three parcels in total. Guyot. 6,000 vines/ha. The main vineyard is at 580 metres. The highest altitude vines are at 800 metres. The land slopes to the Ofanto river.

DON CHISCIOTTE, FIANO | 100% Fiano. IGT Campania. Around 6,000 bottles. Said to be best with white meat like rabbit. / 2006 Debut vintage. From 2ha of certified organic Fiano grapes. 12.6%. Made by Guido, Michele and Pierluigi Zampaglione. / 2007 ‘A white wine for lovers of skin contact. This is fairly dark in colour from being raised in an open vat, cloudy in the glass, and has seen very little sulphur,’ (Les Caves de Pyrène list July 2011). / 2010 12.5%. Nice and citric with an interesting texture and 24mg/l total sulfite, tasted at RAW 2015. / 2011 IGT Campania 12.5%. Nice and savoury with 12 months on lees in steel with 34 mg/l total sulfites at RAW 2015. / 2012 56 mg/l total sulfites (RAW 2015).
