Multivintage Champagne is a term coined by the Krug family in the Champagne region of France. They argue their Non Vintage or NV Champagne is not in fact a non-vintage but a blend of vintages, hence ‘multivintage’. Speaking at the VINCE wine festival, Budapest 06th April 2018 Tom Stevenson suggested such a term should have been subject to regulation and that ideally any official Champagne Multi-Vintage category should have to be made from a limited number of declared vintage years, his suggestion being a maximum of five. Stevenson added that each vintage ending up in such a blend should come from a Vintage declared and released by that producer.
