Località Volpaia, Radda in Chianti | Locality in Radda-in-Chianti, in the Chianti Classico DOCG region of Tuscany, Italy.

Terroir, wine style | Maurizio Castelli (Enogea, 2014) says that ‘generally speaking, the sandy soils on the eastern side of [Chianti Classico], in Volpaia, for example, provide aromatic but unstructured musts with an early loss of colouring matter. This produces very fine and juicy wines, closer to a Pinot Noir than to a Brunello di Montalcino.’ See Castello di Volpaia’s ‘Coltassala’ bottling.
