Feudo Antico was created by a group of people whose aim was to make wine from grape varieties native to the Abruzzo region, such as Pecorino and Passerina. The winery is located in Tollo, a small town in Chieti Province in Abruzzo, already famous in Roman times for its wines and since 2009 hometown of the Tullum DOC. The estate is certified organic.

StaffAgronomist: Antonio Sitti. | Winery Riccardo Brighigna. | Manager of the business Andrea Di Fabio.

Organic certification: 2013 15ha of vines (300hl) with full organic certification for the first time.

Vineyards: 15ha. Working on growing Pecorino at almost 1000 metres  in collaboration with the University of Milan.

White wines

Tullum DOP Bianco Biologico: Organic white from old Trebbiano Abbruzese, Passerina and Pecorino clones. Varied soil from lightly sandy, to lightly calcareous, porous or composed by clayish marne rich of mineral substances. Each vineyard, selected for the Tullum Bianco, has been chosen on the base of: clone, rootstock, age, exposure, temperature range and overall, soil composition. The vinification technique, recovers an ancient local process with a skin maceration in a pre-fermentation phase and a following controlled temperature fermentation. | 2013 80% Pecorino, 20% Trebbiano. Unfiltered. Very lively and limey, bottle age has helped round this out, very nice depth and length, very appealing and dense (Vinitaly 2015).

Tullum DOP Passerina: 2018 100% Passerina. 13% alc. 2.5g/residual sugar. Skin contact. Fermented in stainless steel. Age in stainless and glass-lined concrete vats.

Tullum DOP, Pecorino Biologico: 2013 100% Pecorino grapes. Spontaneous fermentation in concrete tanks. After six months in the tanks, the wine is bottled without being filtered nor stabilized. Good weight, modern, saline, very good at Millésime Bio 2015. | 2014 Wild fermented in cement vats. 6 months on lees. Pleasant bitter herb, savoury, good weight, length, leesy end (unfiltered) but clean at Vinitaly 2015.

Pink wines

Rosato, Feudo Antico: 100% Montepulciano grapes (old vines, biotypes it seems) from hill sites in Tollo (cadastral map sheet N° 1, Località Sterpari, N° 2, Località Piane Mozzone and Colle Cavalieri, N° 12, Località Colle Secco). Hand harvested early morning and in small boxes. Soils vary slightly calcareous to marl-sandy permeable and not very deep and stony. | 2013 Good weight, modern, saline, very good at Millésime Bio 2015. 2014 100% Montepulciano. 7 hours on skins then the juice goes to 250 litre acacia barrels for fermentation with batonnage. Barrels are rolled to aovid oxidation. Unfiltered. Savoury, some spritz, nice, bit simpler than the other two wines (Vinitaly 2015).
