Donna Olimpia 1898 is a wine producer in Bolgheri in Livorno Province on the Tuscan coast of Italy. Donna Olimpia 1898 was created by Guido Folonari (see Ruffino) from 2001. This was one of three wine projects he created between Piemonte and Tuscany. Wines are made under the Bolgheri DOC and the Costa Toscana denomination.

The name: Donna Olimpia 1898 was given to the estate in 1898, in honour of Gherardo della Gherardesca’s wife Olimpia Alliata of Biserno, to commemorate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary.

Estate vineyards: 60ha estate in Bolgheri, of which 45ha are vines. These were planted as a result of the research on clones and rootstocks undertaken in collaboration with Prof. Scienza of the University of Milan. Around 7,000 vines per hectare.

Grape varieties: The training system is the single spur cordon. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot; Vermentino, Viognier and Petit Manseng.

Bolgheri Superiore DOC, Millepassi: Millepassi, Italian for “one thousand steps”, refers to an ancient Roman road crossing the estate and to the old Roman measure of length “milium” that corresponds to 1.480 metres.
