CHÂTEAU AUGUSTE is a winery in the Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux.
BACKGROUND Steven Meijer purchased Château Auguste in December 2005 (EARL Vignobles Meijer). He retained the existing gérant (manager) Jean-Paul Serougne.
VINEYARDS 32 hectares (79 acres) of vines in Saint-Aubin-de-Branne: 70% Merlot, 30% Cabernets. 4,000-4,500 vines/ha. Single guyot pruning with 6 buds.
CERTIFICATION The vines were farmed organically in the 1970s, Château Auguste’s then owner being a member of one of France’s pioneering organic farm associations, Qualité France. As Château Auguste had begun its official organic conversion in 2001 (Ecocert) it was fully certified organic for 2006, Meijer’s first vintage as owner.

BORDEAUX ROSÉ AOC, CUVÉE DU MOULIN 2006 Merlot. Oenologist: M Guichard (back label). Deepish colour for Bordeaux Rosé. Dirty, sulphury, corky nose, and green tannins despite some impression of weight (tasted 22 July 2008). Prix publique of €3 per bottle and €2.20 for the trade in 2008.
BORDEAUX ROUGE AOC, CUVÉE DU MOULIN 2006 Merlot, Cab Franc, Cab Sauv. Nice mid-ruby purple core with a light rim, but the fruit was light, vegetal, sulphury, flat, non-descript, lacking urgency and selection (tasted 22 Sept 2008). Prix publique of €4 per bottle and €2.60 for the trade in 2008.
