Astoria is a producer in Treviso province in the Veneto region of Italy. Still wines are bottled under the Venezia DOC. Sparkling wines are bottled under the Prosecco Treviso DOC.

Owner: Founded 1987. Now 4th generation. Privately owned by Giorgio Polegato (with whom we had lunch on Sunday 11th June 2017) and his brother Paolo. DOCG’s biggest private producer.

Staff: Enologist: Roberto Sandrin (in 2017).

Terroir: 2017 The vineyards are under the direction of the company’s two agronomists. Within a 5-6km radius. Do not want grapes coming too far away from pressing area. Vines are in the townships of Soligo, Soligetto, Conegliano and until Faro di Soligo

VIineyard area & wine production2017 40ha of estate vines for Conegliano cru and vintage wines. 20% still wines eg. Marzemino passito. Make wine from 300ha in total. Also buy in from 100 local growers. 80% is fizz.

Venezia DOC Spumante Extra Dry Rosè Millesimato | 2018 70% Raboso Piave, 30% Pinot Nero.11.5% alcohol. 15g/l residual sugar.

Sparkling White wines

Prosecco DOC Treviso, Gaggiandre: Organic. From 3ha (300 quintals) of estate vineyards. Coolish site. Want to go 100% bio for estate grapes over the next few years. Launched in 2013. Organic works well in Italy, also Germany, northern Europe. | NV 100% Glera. 11%. Extra Dry. Passionfruit (Visit 11th June 2017).

Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Brut Millesimato Extra Dry: 2016 11.5% Rive di Refrontolo. Has 16g/l RS for cremosity (Visit 11th June 2017).

Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Millesimato Extra Dry, Astoria | 2016 11.5%. Sweetish and lemony. Looking to get some aromas into this. Creamy (Visit 11th June 2017).

Sweet Red wines

Fervo Passito: A passito red. Marzemino. 4,000 bottles. 90 days drying in a natural gazebo. Tasted but no tasting note(Visit 11th June 2017).

Sales & Markets: 2017 60% in Italy overall. Have invested in the Italian market, leader for 0n-trade. 40% export. USA main. UK (Manchester and London via Alivini. Mercanti in Bristol). Japan. Venice collection range. Packing/marketing is very important for them. Gave a big push to their marketing, Venetian dialect. DOC/DOCG, Cartizze in this range. Honor–30 year anniversary from Venezie DOC [still but now sparkling wines]. Prosecco does not appear on the label. So can be a Prosecco blended with eg. Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc.
